Italy will host the Milan-Cortina 2026 Winter Olympic Games, from 6 to 22 February 2026, while the Paralympic Games will take place from 6 to 15 March 2026.
The Winter Olympics return to Italy, 20 years after Turin 2006. For the third time in history, in fact, Italy will host the winter event. This will already allow the development of an induced activity with important repercussions in terms of improving and strengthening the infrastructures and the general road network for the entire Bormio-Livigno-Isolaccia-Valdidentro-Valfurva district.
Sixteen Olympic and six Paralympic disciplines, spread over 18 competition venues. More than 3500 athletes from 93 countries will compete for a place on the podium. Two million spectators expected in the competition venues and a big news: the absolute debut for ski mountaineering at the Games.
One of the most beautiful and evocative places of the event will be Valtellina, which with Livigno and Bormio will be the theater of the Winter Olympics and Paralympics for the disciplines of ALPINE SKIING and SKI MOUNTAINEERING
A true icon of winter sports and in particular of speed, the Stelvio slope in Bormio, in Valtellina, is one of the most spectacular, technical and demanding in the world. The route extends for 3,186 meters with a total elevation gain of 987 meters and a maximum gradient of 63%. Among the most difficult passages is the jump of San Pietro, which is passed by the athletes with a jump of over 40 meters, landing at speeds over 140 km / h. In 1985 and 2005 it hosted the Alpine Skiing World Championships.
Since 2007 the track has been illuminated and is approved for night races.
The Bormio slope will host the men’s alpine skiing competitions and the first race will be the Free Downhill on February 8, 2026.
Bormio will also host the Ski Mountaineering competitions, a discipline making its Olympic debut in Milan Cortina 2026.
